3 August 2018 · Alonsa, Canada · EF4
On a summer evening a huge tornado, 800 metres wide, moved across farmland near Alonsa in Manitoba and out onto Lake Manitoba. It swept some houses clean off their foundations, threw campers and cars into the lake and stripped the bark off trees.
It was rated EF4, the first violent tornado in Canada since the Elie tornado of 2007.
One person died, which is why Canadian forecasters now study this storm to improve warnings.
