Around midday a tornado swept through two districts of Kropyvnytskyi, a city in central Ukraine. In about five minutes it tore roofs from roughly a hundred houses, broke walls and gas pipes and uprooted trees.

October tornadoes are unusual in Ukraine, where most happen in the warm months from May to August.

The city offered hotel rooms to families whose homes had lost their roofs.
