A powerful tornado struck the small town of Andreapol in the Tver region of western Russia, north-west of Moscow. It was about 500 metres wide, tracked for roughly 7 km and flattened wooden houses and part of the town's forest.

It was rated IF3, making it one of the strongest tornadoes recorded in Russia in recent decades.

The same storm system had produced tornadoes earlier that day in neighbouring Belarus.
