Two waterspouts formed over the sea near Marsala and came ashore as tornadoes. The stronger one cut a path about 6 kilometres long through Petrosino and the Terrenove district of Marsala, tearing roofs off houses and throwing cars off the road. It also badly damaged the Alcide De Gasperi school, where about 270 children were moved to a safer part of the building in time. Eleven people were hurt and one of them later died in hospital.
