On a warm May evening a tornado with several swirling funnels crossed the villages of Boisheim, Schaag and Dilkrath near Viersen in western Germany, close to the Dutch border. In about ten minutes it damaged dozens of roofs and flattened part of a forest along a 5 km path.

Germany records about 20 to 60 tornadoes each year, most of them weak.
