One evening a tornado formed under a rotating thunderstorm just north of Saint-Étienne. It travelled at least 2.5 kilometres through Villars and the towns nearby, and was about 600 metres wide. Trees were uprooted, roofs were torn off houses and shops, cars were damaged and two lorries were flipped over on the A72 motorway. One person was lightly hurt and about 8,000 homes lost electricity.
