In November a huge tornado, more than 3 km wide at its biggest, crossed the town of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu in Paraná, southern Brazil. Rated F4, it damaged about nine out of ten homes in town along a 75 km path.

The same storm produced a second F4 tornado nearby, near Guarapuava.

The state governor called it a catastrophe unlike anything in Paraná's history.
