In the middle of a spring afternoon a tornado with many small spinning funnels moved straight through the centre of Marechal Cândido Rondon, a town in western Paraná, Brazil. It damaged about 1,500 homes and cut water, power and phone lines for days.

Radar showed a 'debris signature', pieces of buildings lifted into the air, the first time this had ever been recorded in South America.

The state weather service first rated it F1, but later studies found F2 damage.
