Talcahuano tornado

A day after a tornado hit Los Ángeles, another one came ashore from the Pacific as a waterspout and travelled about 15 kilometres through the port city of Talcahuano and into Concepción. It peeled roofs off homes and factories, shattered the windows of a shopping mall and left about 50,000 people without power.

Two tornadoes in two days shocked Chile, where people thought tornadoes almost never happened.

Meteorologists estimated the winds at 50 to 55 metres per second, roughly 180 to 200 kilometres per hour.
