On a November afternoon a tornado came ashore near Carvoeiro in the Algarve and travelled about 38 kilometres inland through Lagoa and Silves. It tossed cars and motorhomes, tore roofs off houses and wrecked part of the Silves football stadium.

It started as a waterspout over the sea and crossed about 7 kilometres of water before reaching land.
